VidaTalk™ is an innovative and versatile communication tool designed to assist non-verbal patients in healthcare settings, particularly where language barriers may exist between patients and providers. Developed and rigorously tested for the hospital environment, VidaTalk has received funding support from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research under grant NR014087.
Featuring a user-friendly interface, patients can easily access commonly used phrases by a simple touch. In addition, they have the option to input personalized messages and drawings using touch functionality, enabling quick and tailored communication. The tool offers a comprehensive library of words and phrases tailored to individual needs, available in recorded audio across various genders and languages, ensuring effective communication for all patients.
This version of VidaTalk provides bilingual communication in English and 40 other languages, including but not limited to Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
Traditional speech solutions for long-term or chronic communication challenges often fall short in meeting the specific demands of healthcare environments, leaving non-verbal patients isolated from active participation in their care. VidaTalk emerges as a vital resource in critical care settings and initiatives focused on promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in patient-provider communication.
